3 simple steps.

Here I have a few pics that demonstrate how to get some quick painting results.

Here you can see that I'm paying particular attention to the beard. Basically the beard (any the rest of the mini) is painted in 3 stages. Basecoat, darken and highlight. Also, at the end of this post is a small segment on drybrushing.

1. The mini is primed with a coat of white. And then I undercoat the beard a deep orange.


2. Now the crevices of the beard have been filled in with a darker orange. In this case you can simply add dark brown or black to normal orange to get the colour 'burnt orange'.


3. Now the beard has been given highlights on the raised areas. The colour used on the raised areas is a kind of orangy-yellow. It's just a bit of orange mixed with yellow.


The same process is used to paint the whole mini.

Now I would like to show how 'drybrushing' can help get quick results.

To do some drybrushing it's best to use a brush that is a bit old. 1. Dip it in some paint (in this case I'm using metallic paint) 2. Wait for it to dry a bit (but not completely) 3. Then rub lightly it over the surface you wish to highlight -multiple times. And slowly you should get a result whereby the raised edges will take the pigment but the crevices won't.

I base coated this Dwarf banner with dark metal. Then darkened the crevices with black wash (black paint thinnned with water). Then drybrushed the whole thing with a light metallic silver.
